Most of us will agree that our children have decent alternatives for their education. That is not true for the WIN students. If they can't find a place in this new system, they are going to be forced to walk through dangerous neighborhoods to under-performing schools.
These families are expected to pay registration and financial aid application fees before the Diocese will even tell them if financial aid is available. That is money they need for necessities for their families that they cannot afford to lose.
If you are interested in giving them "Nothing to Lose", please consider donating money to one of the WIN schools listed below with a letter designating that it is to be used for registration fees or past-due tuition. Any amount will help. It would show these families that we are not abandoning them in our efforts to keep our own schools open. In addition, it might force the Diocese to set up a financial aid endowment to continue this important mission of our Church.

This is beautiful! I would love to see SMM school collect our money and then send in a lump donation! This is the reason I am proud to be a catholic school parent!
Now that's what Catholicism is all about!
We also considered pooling our money at our parish, but thought it might take too long. These families are under the same time constraints we are in trying to register. They need to be registered before new families try to register or they might not find a space.
However you choose to do it, please keep the time line in mind. I would hate to see such a tremendous gesture be in vain.
This effort, and the way people seem to be embracing it, has been the one bright spot in this whole mess. I too am proud to be a Catholic school parent.
