I am not so much angry with today's announcement as I am angry with the "crack in the door" that inspired hundreds of people at our school to burn the midnight oil and use their VERY valuable time all for naught. Last thursday's meeting should have been a factual discussion between the DOR and a group of parent and faculty. If the DOR knew it would take such "extraordinary circumstances" how did these meetings become such grand stages for keeping our school open rather than explaining the secret information used by the Task Force to sort through the Monroe County Catholic Schools? I would like to hear from someone on the Task Force after they heard our plan and others. They must be scratching their heads and saying "Why didn't we think of that?"

Are there any next steps other than registering our children for other schools?

I hope all the remaining schools are preparing to be independant when time arrive.
DOR just don't care! They will do what they want to do anyway. As for most of us that have our school close, we should remember this when CMA comes around in the years to come.

Can we use this blog to now discuss what schools we are listing on our registration forms and why?!

I'm almost afraid to enroll my child in another diocesan school for fear that the same thing will happen again in a couple of years. Is there any chance at all of SMM becoming an independent Catholic school?

Thank you to the parents, grandparents and parishioners who have worked so hard to save St. Margaret Mary School. You did a phenomenal job; I would have expected nothing less. SMMS has been an extraordinary community and I feel blessed to have been part of it for so long. My thoughts and prayers are with you as you make your registration decisions.

Joe, this presentation was to keep the school opened as an independent school. There was no going back to being a diocesan school. If you fear that this will happen again, take a look at Archangel and Nazareth. They are independent schools from the Diocese and won't face the slaughter like so many think the remaining 11 will in a few years.

Joe, I am thinking strategy when I list my schools. It has been said at the Diocesan level how many students John Neumann can accomodate. I have heard numbers like 400 mentioned. I too believe in a few years that another round of schools will close. I think they may leave a school open per quadrant. Do I choose the school I like the most and fear that my child won't make it to 6th grade or do I choose the school I think will remain open longer?

We looked at Nazareth and the tuition is much higher than we pay BUT there would be the peace of mind that the school isn't going anywhere.

I don't have the answer and am waiting for the Holy Spirit to guide my pencil.

I am also considering Nazareth. The tuition is actually less than I pay now, and I want an experience similar to SMMS.(Although I know that NOTHING will measure up!) Does anyone have any impressions of Nazareth? The person I spoke with said that Nazareth would never be under threat of closure. If you know anything, I would appreciate your impressions of the school.

Yesterday Bob Lonsberry's column was devoted to the school closing situation. Although I don't agree with what he wrote about Bishop Clark, he does make some good points. See for yourself.
